World Citizen Peace and the Minnesota Reading Association are excited to co-host the Peace & Literacy Summer Institute, August 7 & 8, 2025. The Summer Institute will inspire teachers and others to explore the intersections between teaching the empowering tools of literacy and the intentional building of cultures that promote peace and justice for our youth to engage meaningfully and positively in the world.

Teachers attending The Summer Institute may apply for CEUs. All attendees are emailed a Certificate of Attendance after the Institute.

  • The deadline for submitting proposals is Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at 11:59pm.
  • Applications should directly address the Institute’s themes and topics.
  • All applications are reviewed by a committee of WCP and MRA members.
  • Applicants will be informed of their acceptance status by Friday, May 30, 2025.
  • World Citizen Peace and the Minnesota Reading Association are seeking engaged break out presenters to add to the depth of the conference.
  • Break-out session presenters will be given a $150 stipend.
  • Panel presenters are provided $300, to be divided among the panel members.
  • Presenters may attend the conference for free on the day of their presentations.
  • Presenters attending the conference on the day they are not presenting may do so at the reduce price of $100.
  • A box lunch will be provided for all presenters on the day of their presentation.

Suggested breakout session themes include:

  • peace education
  • peace practices (seek peace within yourself and others; reach out in service; protect the environment; respect diversity; be a responsible citizen of the world)
  • best practices in literacy
  • social/racial justice in education
  • inclusion, anti-bias, anti-racism
  • culturally relevant literacy practices
  • social emotional learning

We invite presenters to select topics related to their background (for example, technology, STEM & literacy, how to embed science of reading in a culturally relevant framework, etc.)  Please ensure there is a clear connection between your topic and the overarching themes of the Institute.
